Being a family caregiver is sacred work. It calls on your strength, your time, and your love. But in the middle of all the giving, it’s easy to lose track of your own needs, especially the ones no one else can see.
That’s why I want to remind you of something simple but powerful:Music can be medicine for your soul.
Self-care is more than bubble baths and doctor’s appointments. It’s not just about tending to your physical body, although that matters too. Real self-care is also about nourishing your soul: your mind, your will, and your emotions. These are the places that only God can fully see and fully understand.
Music has a beautiful way of reaching into those quiet, unseen places. It can lift your spirit when you’re feeling low. It can calm your anxious thoughts, bring back warm memories, and open your heart to joy again. Sometimes, a melody can say what you didn’t even know you needed to hear.
For me, music is also deeply personal because it was one of the things Emanuel and I connected over. We both loved music, especially live music. He was a drummer and I was a singer. When we were in our thirties, we would go from church to church supporting worship teams for special events. Emanuel played the drums, my son Chris was on the keyboard, and I sang with the praise team. Those are some of my favorite memories. Music brought our family together and gave us moments that still live in my heart today.
I believe Jesus meets us right there, in those musical moments. When a song wraps around you and speaks directly to your heart, He is present. He shows up with peace, comfort, and the kind of love that heals without needing words.
So today, I’m inviting you to pause and receive.🎵 My Soul Care Playlist – Music for the Caregiver's Heart
Let this be your time to sit at the table and rest. Not as the one serving, but as the one being served. Let God care for you. Let Him refill what has been poured out. He sees how hard you work, and He knows exactly what you need.
I want you to know something else, too.You are not alone.
I am praying for you, sometimes by name because some of you have reached out to me personally. And even if we have never met, please know there are others like me praying, advocating, and trying to create safe spaces just for you.
And even if no one else shows up, God always will. He has a safe place for you. A place to lay down your burden. A place to sit in His lap and let Him care for you, the way only a loving Father can.
Take a deep breath.Play the music.Let your soul be cared for.
With love and prayer,Theresa
