Caregiver Support: You Don't Have to Do It Alone
For years, I thought caregiving was simply something I had to figure out.
I worked from emergency rooms. I called into meetings from hospital bedsides. I changed jobs so I could be closer to home. And eventually, I left corporate America altogether because my husband's care needs had become too great.
I recently shared part of that story with MarketWatch in an article about the challenges working caregivers face. The article points out that 70% of working-age caregivers are employed, yet relatively few employers offer meaningful eldercare support.
What stayed with me most wasn't just the statistics. It was the reminder of how many caregivers are still trying to make it work.
I know that life.
But here's what I want caregivers to understand: You don't have to do it alone.
Support may not always look the way we expect. Sometimes it means asking family members to take on specific responsibilities. Sometimes it means building a care team, finding community resources, talking with your employer, or simply connecting with people who understand what you're carrying.
That's why next week's Care Circle is so important to me.
Our topic is “Caregiver Support: You Don't Have to Do It Alone.” My guest, Bill Cohen, a Caregiving Consultant, will share from his own caregiving experience and talk about collaborating with and coordinating your care team, what caregivers may want to avoid, and practical things you can try.
If you've been carrying the responsibility of caregiving mostly by yourself, I want you in the room.
Come join us. You may discover that the help you need begins with realizing you were never meant to do all of this alone. www.careceo.net/circle
